Suspect arrested in fraud investigation

A man is facing charges after allegedly using counterfeit bills to complete a purchase arranged online.

On July 15, Windsor police were called to Dougall Avenue after a report of a fraud. Investigators learned that the person arranged to sell a drone through an online marketplace. During the exchange, the buyer handed over $640 and quickly took off on a motorcycle with the drone. The seller then realized the money was fake.

Officers identified the suspect and he was arrested that same night on Isabelle Place.

The 27-year-old was charged with fraud, theft, possession of counterfeit money, uttering counterfeit money, possession of property obtained by crime and operation while prohibited.

Windsor police are reminding community members to use their Safe Internet Exchange Zone located at the Traffic Collision Reporting Centre on Jefferson Boulevard. The space is under 24/7 video and audio surveillance to help deter fraud, theft, and violence.
