Windsor man charged in human trafficking probe

The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a 30-year-old Windsor man after an investigation into human trafficking in London.

Police got a tip in May about a victim being trafficked through advertisements online.

The Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-led Joint Forces Strategy started investigating the complaint, along with the OPP Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and various police services across the province.

Investigators identified an additional victim.

Police say the Windsor man faces charges of communicating with someone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services and three counts of procuring to recruit, conceal or harbour or exercise control, direction or influence.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or visit ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

If you or someone you know is being trafficked, call your local police service or the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010 or go to CanadianCentretoEndHumanTrafficking.ca.

The accused remains in police custody and has a court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on Monday.
