Former MP takes position at Multicultural Council

Things appear to have come full circle for a former Member of Parliament.

The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County (MCC) announced on Monday that former Windsor West MP Brian Masse has been hired as their new Employment Services Specialist.

Before he was first elected to Parliament in 2002, Masse had worked for the MCC. Among his duties was to help newcomers and residents find access to job opportunities.

"I’m excited to come back to where it all started," said Masse. "The MCC has always been a place that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives. I’m honoured to now help lead a team of professionals who are on the front lines every day, supporting clients, working with employers, and making sure Windsor-Essex continues to thrive through workforce inclusion."

Masse will report to MCC Executive Director Fred Francis, a member of Windsor City Council. Masse had served on City Council from 1997 to 2002.

"Brian brings an incredible level of insight and commitment to the work we do," said Francis. "His return strengthens our mission and helps shine a light on the exceptional work our staff do each day, matching talent to opportunity, providing one-on-one support, and helping individuals build sustainable career paths."

The MCC is also the chief organizer of the annual Carrousel of the Nations.

Masse represented Windsor West in Ottawa for 23 years as a member of the NDP, where he worked to enhance economic development in Windsor, helped protect the automotive industry, and supported efforts to secure and streamline the border with the U.S.

Masse lost to Conservative Harbinder Gill in the April 29 federal election.
