Windsor fights back against invasive phragmites

The City of Windsor will start its efforts on Monday to control the invasive Phragmites australis in the Ojibway Prairie Complex and East Riverside Park.

The city has contracted the Invasive Phragmites Control Centre to apply herbicide under the Ontario Invasive Species Act.

Crews will apply the herbicide along the trail system and natural areas of Ojibway Park, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, Titcome Trail, Spring Garden Natural Area, Black Oak Heritage Park, and in parts of East Riverside Park.

They'll use WeatherPRO #33653, a pesticide registered under the Pest Control Products Act.

Trails will remain open, but visitors are asked to stay on authorized trails.

If the weather cooperates, the application should finish on Saturday.
