A Windsor group that provides barrier-free and no-cost opportunities for kids to play sports is receiving a grant from the National Hockey League Players' Association and OREO Stay Playful For All.
The two organizations are awarding 14 hockey organizations with $200,000 in grant money to purchase hockey equipment.
Ten organizations, including Take A Shot Sports in Windsor, received $10,000 each.
"Through the OREO Stay Playful For All program, we're not just donating hockey equipment, we're investing in the spirit of play and community across Canada," said Sonia Bongiorno, the Canada Team Lead at Mondelez Canada Inc. "By partnering with the NHLPA and its longstanding NHLPA Goals and Dreams program, our goal is to remove the barriers that often prevent access to the game Canadians love and give more kids the opportunity to get on the ice and experience the joy of hockey."
The program is supported by NHL and PWHL star players, including Sarah Nurse, Marie-Philip Poulin, Zach Hyman, William Nylander, and Nick Suzuki.
"Providing access to the game and connecting with people across Canada who love hockey is something that our players take great pride in," said NHLPA Senior Director of Sponsorship and Player Marketing, Devin Smith.
