One injured in fire on Windsor's west end

Windsor fire investigators say one person has been treated following a fire in the west end on Tuesday afternoon.

Windsor Fire and Rescue say crews were called soon before 1 p.m. to Harrison Avenue near Girardot Street. When they arrived, smoke and fire were visible from the two-storey structure.

The fire was brought under control within the hour, with firefighters dealing with high heat and thick smoke. The natural gas supply to the home was shut off as a precaution.

Everyone in the house was able to escape, but one person was sent to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Investigators determined that the fire started in the basement, from "improper discarding of smoking materials."

Six residents will be displaced as a result. The damage is estimated to be around $400,000.
