Milder temperatures and rain in the forecast mean melting snow.
With that, the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a watershed conditions statement for Windsor-Essex.
Despite the majority of the snowpack having already melted, ERCA said the runoff still needs a place to go.
"Some watercourses are currently filled with snow and ice. As the snow melts across the region, this runoff from the snowmelt will be directed towards these watercourses," said ERCA Water Resources Manager Tian Martin. "In addition to the runoff from the snowmelt, forecasts are calling for 10 to 15 millimetres of rain over the next two days. The snow and ice within the drains have the potential to block these flows, causing some watercourses to spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas."
While Environment Canada has not issued any rain-related statements for the weekend, residents are still asked to exercise caution around bodies of water.
The watershed statement is in effect until at least 10 a.m. on Sunday.
