Windsor to lay off 57 part-time employees this spring

The City of Windsor said it is parting ways with dozens of part-time employees after their union revoked their agreement.

With that, 57 part-timers working in the City's community centres and arenas will be laid off as of April 21, in accordance with the 60-day notification requirement.

The City reported that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CUPE Local 82, which represents the employees, was revoked by the union on Friday.

"The Corporation has complied with all terms outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement and held several meetings with the union to discuss their issues," read a statement from the City. "Despite fulfilling these requirements, the union ultimately decided to withdraw from the agreement."

The jobs in question were filled over the past seven months.

No full-time positions have been affected.

The MOA was signed last summer after two years of talks, and it replaced a previous agreement that was revoked by Local 82 in June.

WindsorNewsToday.ca has reached out to CUPE for further details and is awaiting a response.
