Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent could be in for a messy mix of freezing rain and snow if current forecasts hold up for Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for those regions late Wednesday morning, calling for possible ice build-up of around 2 millimetres by Thursday morning.
Forecasters said the precipitation will start as snow late Wednesday afternoon before it changes over into freezing rain late in the evening and then transitions to snow or rain Thursday morning.
A separate winter weather travel advisory is also in effect because of the snow expected to fall late Wednesday afternoon across the region.
Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent are expected to receive up to 10 centimetres of snow -- about half of the 20 cm that is expected in nearby Sarnia-Lambton and London-Middlesex.
Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson told the MyNewsToday.ca newsroom in Sarnia the region could also be in for another winter storm on the long weekend.
"Unfortunately it does look like yet another system likely to bring widespread snowfall to southwestern Ontario for early Saturday morning, right through the day on Saturday, maybe even into the early morning hours on Sunday as well," said Coulson. "It's a little too early to tell how much snow could fall with this system."
Drivers should be extra careful on the road both in the snow and during the freezing rain as visibility could be reduced and the surfaces could become icy and slippery.
