Seawall Breach At Bright's Grove

More barricades and danger signs are up along Sarnia's Lake Huron shoreline.

Another section of seawall at Bright's Grove has collapsed resulting in severe erosion and bank instability.

City of Sarnia Construction Manager Robert Williams says the problem area is 150 m east of Kenwick St., directly north of Bright's Grove Public School and Wildwood Park.

He says the existing steel wall in the area is at the end of its life.

"We're working with the conservation authority and we've got a contractor scheduled to mobilize," says Williams. "We're going to try to basically plug the hole in the steel wall using armour stone so we can restore the stability of the bank behind it."

Williams says Lake Huron's water levels are the highest they've been in almost 20 years and are partly to blame.

He says residents have been advised to stay clear of the area.

In October, barricades were put up near Blackwell Sideroad beach when the vertical steel seawall protecting the right of way collapsed.
