Paddling film festival to make splash in Sarnia

An international film festival about paddling is set to make a splash in Sarnia.

The World Tour Paddling Film Festival has been travelling the globe for 14 years showcasing and celebrating all types of paddle sports.

Paddling chairperson for the Lambton Outdoors Club Judy Mahoney said for the first time, the festival will visit Ontario's Blue Coast.

"The films that we're showing are about paddling and beautiful scenery. So canoeing, kayaking, standup boarding -- anything you like to do on water, we will be doing it and promoting it."

Mahoney said the festival will feature 26 thrilling and inspiring paddling films, from whitewater and sea kayaking to canoeing and lifestyle videos.

She said if you haven't tried paddling yet, you're missing out.

"I'm a big paddler, so if you're interested, you should come out, I'll lend you a canoe or a kayak and we will go out and do some paddling," said Mahoney. "It is just such a wonderful way to relax and appreciate this area-- we have so much water around here. It's just beautiful."

Mahoney said if you attend the festival, you'll also have the chance to join the Lambton Outdoors Club.

"We have a ton of activities-- hiking, cycling, paddling, winter activities, and there's a ton of stuff every day of the week."

The event goes May 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Theatre Forty Two at 900 Devine Street.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.

The World Tour Paddling Film Festival will visit more than 120 cities and towns across Canada, the United States and the world in 2019.
