Major renovations are scheduled to begin this summer at Sacred Heart School in Port Lambton.
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has selected Windsor-based Architecttura Inc. to lead the $3.1-million project.
Director of Education Deb Crawford said the work will include demolition of the existing portapak, a childcare addition and retrofit upgrades.
"We're very excited about this," said Crawford. "The plan is they'll relocate the two portapak classrooms this summer and that will ensure that the school is not impacted during the construction. The existing portapak is the area where the new childcare addition will be constructed. There's going be new student washrooms, a custodial area and a storage room."
Crawford said the project also incudes a new childcare play yard, parking lot and drop-off.
Work is expected to wrap up by December 31, 2022.
There's currently 135 students enrolled at the Port Lambton elementary school.
