On Saturday night, the Sarnia Humane Society received a call from Northern Reach Rescue Network concerning a husky that had been hit by a car. Griff suffered a broken leg and serious lacerations, and needed surgery.
A second dog named Buddy, who also suffered a leg injury, also needed to make the trek from Northern Ontario to Sarnia.
The humane society said Pilots4Paws, a nonprofit based out of London, quickly stepped up and agreed to help. Pilots Jeremy Hall and Dave Vallillee flew 2,500 kilometres, a single-day record for the organization, in about four hours to get the dogs to Sarnia.
Dr. Tom Kostuch from Bright's Grove Animal Hospital was scheduled to assess the two dogs Monday morning with surgery to follow.
