A section of Highway 402 was closed for a few hours Wednesday afternoon after the trailer of a garbage hauler caught fire.
First responders were called to the westbound lanes of the highway, near the Murphy Road overpass, at around 1:30 p.m.
West Region OPP later posted a tweet that read the westbound lanes were closed at Modeland Road in order to properly and safely extinguish the fire.
"The closure is expected to last into the evening while the contents are removed, extinguished, and then removed from the highway," said OPP Cst. Jamie Bydeley in an email to Sarnia News Today.
However, the cleanup took less time than anticipated as the westbound lanes reopened around 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, Lambton OPP is reminding motorists that drivers will be issued tickets for going around road closure signs and barricades.
Cst. Bydeley said by mid-afternoon, he'd already issued two tickets to motorists for driving on a closed road.
The fine was $110 each time.
