Pair of arrests after shots fired on Walpole Island

Two people are facing charges after police were called in for a report of gunshots being fired on Walpole Island First Nation.

Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they got a call at 3:50 p.m. Monday that two people had shot at someone on Dump Road. The Walpole Island Police Service was also called to the scene.

When police arrived, they confirmed that no one had been hurt as a result of the shooting and officers also found some empty firearm casings on the ground in the area.

Police said they were able to identify a pair of suspects and arrested them without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old Walpole Island First Nation resident was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine and methamphetamine) along with one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and discharging a firearm with intent.

A 27-year-old Chatham resident was charged with one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and discharging a firearm with intent.

Both of the accused are being held in custody after a bail hearing.
