A local man has organized a fundraiser in memory of his late girlfriend, Victoria Dew, who tragically passed away in a Brooke-Alvinston collision in March.
Connor Molzan said it was important for him to hold an event in her memory during the May 24 long weekend, since she died in 2024, at the age of 24.
Molzan has set up a Canada Helps fundraising page and is holding a fundraising art show on Saturday, May 18 in Dew's honour to support an organization that was dear to her heart, the Sarnia and District Humane Society. Molzan said this was just part of his grieving process.
"We had a lot of good plans for the future. The thing is timing is everything but you never have enough time and that's just the problem," he said. "It's better to be better than bitter and that's partially why I want to do this because she did everything there was to do for me. She was a health care worker, she worked in the hospice, she did home care, and there wasn't anybody that cared as much as she did."
Molzan said Saturday's event will be held at the Alvinston Arena, in the pavilion, from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
"From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., that'll be the art show, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. there's going to be a silent auction and baked goods sale. One item from each vendor will be donated and 100 per cent of the proceeds from that item will go directly to the humane society," he said.
Molzan said there will be about five to 10 vendors on-site as some had to cancel. The fundraiser will also include a cornhole tournament and karaoke from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
There were previous plans to host a large event at an area farm where attendees would try to break a world record for the longest shotski, however, event details couldn't come together in time for the upcoming long weekend.
Molzan said since Dew was an art enthusiast, so he thought an art show in her memory would be a good alternative.
There will be a $20 admission fee, $10 from each ticket sold will go to the Sarnia and District Humane Society.
