Alleged impaired drivers arrested over long weekend

Sarnia police nabbed a pair of impaired drivers on Sunday, in two separate investigations.

Police said the first incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Exmouth Street, between Indian and Copland Roads.

A man was allegedly spotted drinking something inside his vehicle in the middle of a parking lot. It's alleged he was seen throwing two liquor bottles out in a nearby dumpster, and was arrested while still in the driver's seat of the car.

He was taken to police headquarters where he allegedly blew two and a half times the legal limit.

The 49-year-old from Sarnia was charged with impaired operation while having more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood.

In the second case, police said a woman on Lakeshore Road was seen by a witness falling near her car before getting in and driving away.

The witness called officers at around 1:15 p.m., and provided the vehicle licence plate number.

The woman was found at her home where she was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance.

At Sarnia police headquarters, she allegedly blew over three times the legal limit.

The 61-year-old was charged with operation while impaired and impaired operation while having more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood.

Sarnia police are reminding everyone that road safety is a shared responsibility and that alternate transportation plans should be arranged if you plan to consume alcohol.
