It was a long night for the Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team and police negotiators.
Officers remained on scene until just before 6am Friday, dealing with a barricaded person at a Kathleen Ave. apartment.
The incident began around 3:30pm Thursday when an officer from the COPPS Unit spotted a Sarnia man who had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.
It's alleged as officers prepared to arrest the accused, he fled on foot into a residence in the 300-block of Kathleen and barricaded himself inside a room.
Due to concerns the suspect may have been in possession of a weapon, the Emergency Response Team and police negotiators were called to the scene and several homes were evacuated.
Sarnia police say a number of residents were driven to other locations to get some sleep for the night.
At around 5:50am on Friday, after lengthy negotiations, the 30-year-old man came out peacefully and was taken into police custody. He was taken to hospital for observation.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
