South Sarnia sewer upgrade moving to phase three

Sarnia city staff are providing an update on the ongoing multi-million dollar sewer upgrade project in the city's south end.

It will span from Confederation Street along the Howard Watson Nature Trail, under the large CN Rail yard, to a new pumping station by Indian Road.

Crews have completed the second phase of the three phase initiative, ahead of schedule.

It involved installing 675m of pipe on a curve underneath the CN Rail Yard, using micro-tunneling.

The third and final phase of the project will focus on the area from McGregor Side Road north to Confederation Street.

The tunneling is worth about $20 million and the pumping station’s worth around $13 million. It will service nearly the entire city east of Murphy Road.

The project remains on budget and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021.
