Sarnia

Warrant issued following assault on Kathleen Ave.

One person has been arrested while police search for a second suspect in connection to an assault investigation, which involved a hammer.

Sarnia police said the victim was approached by two men and a woman while he was walking in the 300 block of Kathleen Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22.

One of the male suspects said he wanted to talk while the other held a hammer. One of the suspects allegedly struck the victim with the hammer multiple times. However, police said the victim was able to block the blows and eventually get away.

The victim's girlfriend, who witnessed the incident, shouted from the window of their residence. It's alleged the two male suspects then broke into the residence and assaulted the female victim "who feared for her life".

She eventually escaped and went to Bluewater Health to receive treatment for her injuries.

Police said Frederick Mclean Hunter, 46, was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and break and enter to a dwelling. He remains in custody.

A warrant has been issued for 33-year-old Joseph Marcelino Ayala.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the Criminal Investigation division at 519-344-8861 ext. 5300.
