A mobile household hazardous waste collection event is being held at Lambton College in Sarnia Saturday.
Lambton County officials and Clean Harbors Canada will be set up in parking lot 11 at 1457 London Road from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment."
Examples of the materials include batteries, drain and oven cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, aerosols, paints, and propane cylinders.
For safety reasons, officials ask that lithium batteries be separated from all other battery types before drop-off.
Pharmaceuticals, sharps (hypodermic needles) and fluorescent lightbulbs are also accepted.
Commercial, industrial, and radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives like flares and ammunition will not be accepted.
If you can't attend this weekend, another collection is planned June 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clean Harbors Canada Inc. site, 4090 Telfer Road in St. Clair Township
