Charges against one of two suspects in a stabbing in Sarnia Friday have been dropped.
Sarnia police have confirmed the Crown dropped the charge of attempted murder against 22-year-old Michael Vella-White.
The suspect turned himself in to police on Monday after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a stabbing that left a 33-year-old man with life-altering injuries.
In an email to Sarnia News Today, Deputy Police Chief Julie Craddock said it's the Crown who makes those decisions.
"We can't comment on a case before the courts but in general, when a warrant is issued, a charge is laid with it based on the information available at the time," said Craddock. "If, for example, new information comes to light, or those charges need to change, be amended or even withdrawn, that is a decision of the Crown. Decisions are made with information available at the time. Investigations often evolve and we adapt to where the evidence takes us."
Dillon Gray-Vail, 20, of Sarnia remains charged with attempted murder.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at (519) 344-8861.
