Improvements at the former Gregory A. Hogan School in Sarnia gave a big boost to building permits last month.
City hall issued a $2.9 million permit in June for upgrades at the school on Hogan Drive, which include a new gymnasium and stage area.
The school is scheduled to reopen to students in September as Sacred Heart Catholic School.
The permit was one of 44 issued in June, totaling just over $8.78 million.
A $1.28 million permit was also issued for renovations at Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School on Michigan Avenue.
Construction activity in Sarnia for the first half of the year is behind last year's pace with a total of 205 permits issued to date, compared to 252 in the first six months of 2023.
While construction activity slowed, the dollar volume is up so far this year by over $1.5 million at $38.3 million.
Two permits were issued last month for single-family homes, bringing the year-to-date total to 10.
