Beach water quality deemed safe for swimming

After receiving a significant amount of rainfall earlier this week, water quality standards at area beaches appear to be good heading into the weekend.

A rainfall warning was issued for Sarnia-Lambton on Tuesday as some areas were expected to receive 50-75 millimeters of rainfall.

Warning signs were posted at Ipperwash Beach on Wednesday due to high levels of bacteria. However, the all-clear was given on Thursday.

Lambton Public Health conducts water testing at Grand Bend, Pinery Provincial Park, Ipperwash Main Beach, C.J. McEwan (Highland Glen), Bright's Grove and Canatara.

Information about beach water quality surveillance can be found on Lambton Public Health's website

Meanwhile, residents have been advised to not swim in the St. Clair River near Lyndoch Street and Hill Street due to diesel fuel spill caused by a train derailment on August 3.
