Fundraising efforts for this year's Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign are off to a great start.
Director of Development and Communications Ryan Doyle said, so far, $475,840 or 32 per cent of the $1.487 million target has been raised.
The annual fundraising effort officially kicked off last week with the Day of Caring.
"So we had 130 volunteers all across Sarnia-Lambton at 25 different work sites doing various different jobs, helping out agencies, helping out people," said Doyle. "So if you saw anybody with a green shirt working last week, that's what they were doing."
He said several large campaigns are set to kick off during this second week of the fundraiser.
"Imperial's kicking off their campaign, they're our largest campaign in the community," said Doyle. "We also kicked off our campaign with Enbridge, they did a food truck, golf truck, bunch of different stuff, super exciting. Then NOVA kicks off on Thursday. So a lot of our industry campaigns are really starting and we're super excited."
The LCBO point of sale fundraiser is already underway. In the past, the campaign collected close to $30,000.
"It's a huge money-maker and it's great just to raise awareness in the community," said Doyle. "People are out there, people are hearing about us, knowing that what we're doing is local."
A total of 17 local agencies receive funding from the United Way including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Inn of the Good Shepherd and Habitat for Humanity, providing 29 programs and services to the community.
