Aamjiwnaang elects new council

Aamjiwnaang First Nation has elected its new Band Council.

Janelle Nahmabin (Mskwaanakwod Kwe) was acclaimed in September to have the top role over the next two years.

Nahmabin served as acting chair before she was acclaimed after Chris Plain stepped down from the role.

There were 26 people looking for one of nine spots on Band Council.

Joanne Rogers received the most votes with 237 ballots cast, she was followed by Sherri Crowley who had 225 ballots cast.

John Q. Adams, Darren L. Henry, Mike Jackson, Ken J. Plain, Marina Plain, June R. Simon and Justin (CJ) Smith-White were also elected.

The election was held on Friday, October 19 at the Mawn Doosh Gumig Community Centre.
