A few new activities at the Strangway Community Centre appear to have piqued people's interest as the facility gets ready to launch its spring and summer programming.
Registration for spring-summer recreation programs opened on Tuesday, March 18.
The program schedule will run from March 31 until August 29 and is open to adults who are 20 years of age and older.
Activities Programmer Mike Neely said there seems to be a lot of excitement at the centre and requests to see the spring-summer recreation guide.
A few of the new programs offered include an eight-week art program focused on Canadian themes, called Art in Canada: Coast to Coast; Chair Qi Gong, which focuses on gentle movements and meditation; and Rudimentary Tech Literacy to teach people how to use apps and different programs.
Neely said a couple of the new programs act as an expansion to current activities.
"Dance Fusion kind of expands on some opportunities that our dance instructor offers. There's a lot of popularity around her programs, so this one will feature different exciting dance routines using props, like hats and canes," he said. "Another one is Learn to Crochet. So we again got some feedback -- or input -- that that would be something some people would be interested in, so our knitting instructor has expanded her offerings.
Neely said with most programs, equipment and supplies are provided but further details can be found through the website, under the program description.
Registration can be done online, by calling 519-332-0330 extension 3700, or by visiting City Hall or the Strangway Centre during business hours.
The city offers roughly 85 programs through the Strangway Centre. Last year, there were upwards of 2,000 participants.
