Leadership conference expected to sell out soon

The organizer of the upcoming Lambton Women's Leadership Conference said registration is starting to fill up quicker than anticipated, as the springtime event promises a mix of local panelists.

Helen Cole, founder of The Jean Collective, said about two thirds of tickets have been sold, as of March 21.

"I'm positive we're going to sell out," she said.

The panelists chosen for next month's event include Business Owner and City/County Councillor Chrissy McRoberts, Rayjon Sharecare Executive Director Allison Kingston, Optimist International Past President Tracy Huxley, Business Owner and Federal NDP Candidate Lo-Anne Chan, Business Owner and Aamjiwnaang First Nation Chief Janelle Nahmabin.

"One of the things we learned in our 2023-2024 conferences was that women wanted to hear from local women in leadership roles and they often said that they felt backed from barriers such as imposter syndrome, et cetera, and the lack of support," Cole said. "So, because of what we learned in those conferences, we are now trying to provide a mix that will be helpful to women who attend."

Cole said they have prepared a series of questions to ask each of the panelists, catering to each of their portfolios.

"Our purpose is to create space for women to connect, be inspired, and grow as leaders, so everything follows that theme," she said.

Cole said the conference will open with Julie Jenkins of Exit Realty to share her motivational story.

Eve Morgan of Blackburn Media and Eve Morgan Promotion and Events will emcee the event.

The conference will also include a workshop led by Linda Morrison and Star Morrison.

"I think it's going to be a fantastic day!"

The conference will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Four Points by Sheraton in Point Edward.

Registration is $35 and can be done online before April 20.

The Jean Collective, inspired by Jean MacDougall, launched as a way to empower women from all backgrounds and provide a supportive space to build connections.
