Further details have been released following a police standoff in Sarnia on Tuesday.
City police said the altercation on Vidal Street South, involving three men, started around 2 p.m. when a 51-year-old resident saw a man in his driveway tampering with his ATV.
The homeowner grabbed a baseball bat for protection, confronted the man and ordered him to leave the property.
The suspect eventually went to the sidewalk where a verbal dispute ensued. It's alleged at this time the suspect was joined by another man.
In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the homeowner dropped the bat.
The two men then allegedly attacked the homeowner, knocking him to the ground, punching and kicking him repeatedly.
It's alleged one of the men took the baseball bat and hit the homeowner in the stomach and leg before heading to a nearby home and returning with a handgun, which he pointed at the victim's head.
As police arrived, the pair ran to a nearby home and barricaded themselves inside.
After several hours of negotiations involving Sarnia police, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Sarnia Canine Units, and the deployment of pepper spray into the residence, the two men surrendered.
During a search of the residence, Sarnia police investigators located a .22 calibre pellet handgun concealed inside a piece of furniture.
Corey Maness, 36, faces a long list of charges including assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and two counts of breach of probation.
John Nahmabin, 54, is charged with assault and uttering threats.
Both men were remanded into custody.
