A charity car wash scheduled for this weekend will have a '70s twist as people dress up as Mrs. Roper from the TV show "Three's Company", in order to raise money for the Women's Interval Home of Sarnia-Lambton.
The first Mrs. Roper's Charity Car Wash, organized by the Roper’s Romp Sarnia-Lambton chapter, will be held on Saturday, May 31 at the Point Edward Ex-Servicemen's Club from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Roper’s Romp Founder Jan Moran said after hosting a successful donation event last year, they wanted to change things up.
"I wanted to do a retro twist to the car wash," she said. "I thought it would be fun, great for families. They can have hot dogs and hamburgers, get a car wash, and show the children that they can help out the community and have fun at the same time."
Moran said as of May 29, around nine people have signed up to participate.
"We're just hoping to set up two stations, and it looks like we're going to have great weather," Moran said.
Each car wash will cost $5.
Moran said they'll also accept donated items for the Women's Interval Home.
"They're looking for donations for children's lunches, non-perishable food items, or gift cards from a grocery store. New towels are in desperate need as well," Moran said.
Women's Interval Home Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator Josephine Ethier said the organization is incredibly grateful to the Roper’s Romp group and the Ex-Servicemen’s Club for hosting the meaningful event.
"Events like the charity car wash do more than raise funds, they raise awareness. Every dollar donated directly supports women, children, and families impacted by intimate partner violence right here in our community," said Ethier in an emailed statement. "We are proud to stand alongside community members who choose to turn compassion into action. Together, we are building a safer, more supportive Sarnia-Lambton for everyone.
The fundraising car wash will also include live music.
