Business summit to look at market trends and global opportunities

Business leaders and local professionals are once again invited to learn about market trends and exploring global opportunities.

The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce will host its second annual business summit on Thursday, July 10 at the Four Points by Sheraton, Point Edward.

Minister of Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson, Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey, and Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu will all be in attendance.

Chief Executive Officer Carrie McEachran said the event is to bring business leaders, government, and stakeholders together.

"Bring them all together under one roof, in one room to talk about what's happening in Sarnia-Lambton, how we can support each other. The good, bad and the ugly happening within the business sector here and really focusing locally," she said.

The day will consist of three panels, with one looking at market trends and insights.

"We also have another panel exploring global opportunities, so beyond borders and we have some local businesses that are doing some work outside of Canada and they're going to talk about their experiences. We have Kel-Gor Toolwright sitting on that panel," said McEachran.

The last panel will focus on energy and sustainability, which will have presentations by NOVA, Enbridge, and Imperial Oil.

Anyone looking to hear and network with different industries can attend the event.

The first event was held last year after the success of the State of Sarnia-Lambton Business Breakfast.

McEachran said there were approximately 120 people at the event and it was successful.

"When we look at what we're going to be discussing, we take that from our members," she said. "What are our business members saying? What are their biggest challenges? What do they want to learn more about? And that's how we are able to create these panels."

McEachran said having something like this is beneficial for the community.

"There's some really great stuff happening here in Sarnia-Lambton and I think the more we talk about it, the more it's getting out there and it's great for our economy, economic development. People are noticing Sarnia-Lambton and the more we're on the forefront and the more we're having these important discussions, the more people are going to notice," she said.

Those interested in attending the summit can register on the chamber's website.

It will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. with a reception to follow.
