Defibrillator donated in memory of fallen Sarnia officer

A defibrillator donated to the Sarnia Police Service (SPS) in memory of the late Cst. George Vanderveer will be available to officers who attend high-risk situations and medical emergencies.

The SPS said it recently received the defibrillator from the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, made possible through support from the Sarnia Legion Branch 62.

The memorial fund's mission is to donate life-saving defibrillators for public use in memory of fallen first responders and military personnel.

This donation specifically honoured Vanderveer, who died in the line of duty on March 22, 1944.

The police service said the defibrillator will be placed in one of the Emergency Response Team vehicles, so it's available during situations where police may arrive before paramedics or firefighters.

"The Sarnia Police Service is grateful for this meaningful gift, which not only honours the memory of Cst. Vanderveer but also strengthens our ability to serve our community," read a media release.

Retired SPS Cst. and current Sarnia Legion President Les Jones and retired Lambton Paramedic John Surins joined members of the SPS administration and Emergency Response Team for the donation.
