LPH issues suspension notices to nearly 2,000 students

If your child hasn't been immunized, you're running out of time before they get suspended from school.

Lambton Public Health (LPH) has mailed out suspension orders to 1,966 students, including 1,157 elementary and 809 in the secondary system for out of date records.

That number is down from 2,700 reported in late January.

Records include immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, mumps, rubella, measles, meningitis, whooping cough, and chickenpox.

Health Protection Supervisor Carshenan Lai said suspensions are scheduled to take effect on March 10.

"Parents, guardians, and students have until March 9 to submit updated immunization information to meet the requirements under the Immunization of School Pupils Act," said Lai.

Reporting can be done online at LambtonPublicHealth.ca using the ICON tool, by mailing or dropping off the information at LPH's office at 160 Exmouth Street in Point Edward, or by calling 519-383-8331.

LPH said a nurse must review and verify the information submitted to Lambton Public Health, and as a result, a student may remain on the suspension list until their immunization record or proof of exemption is assessed.

Last year, over 440 local students were suspended from school under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
