GoFundMe launched, memorial ride planned after fatal motorcycle crash

A GoFundMe has been launched to support the children of a man who died in a motorcycle crash last week.

Family have identified Colin Mertick, 42, as the victim of a crash involving a motorcycle and pickup truck on Vidal Street on Wednesday, October 2 at around 2 p.m.

"Colin was a dedicated process operator at Pembina Pipeline Corporation in Corunna," the crowdfunding page organized by Jennifer Arsenault says. "He was not only a devoted father to his five children -- Brayden, Julian, Ava, Katie, and Piper -- but also a cherished son, brother, and friend."

Mertick was described as "an avid motorcycle enthusiast."

Members of the Lady Luck Motorcycle Club are planning a memorial ride for Mertick on October 20.

According to the group's Facebook page, those wishing to participate are asked to meet at the southern parking lot near the Blue Water Bridge at noon. The ride will start at 1 p.m.

The Sarnia Police Traffic Services Unit had taken over the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or had dash-cam footage was asked to contact the lead investigator, Cst. Mike Ross at 519-344-8861 extension 6216.

Since the start of September, there have been two fatal motor vehicle collisions involving motorcycles in Sarnia.

Michael Graham, 30, of Sarnia died following a crash on Finch Drive on September 17.

A GoFundMe was also launched to assist his family.

A benefit for Graham's wife and children will be held at Refined Fool on London Road this Friday, October 11, from 8 p.m. to midnight.
