Bail again denied for man charged in decades-old local sexual assaults

Bail has once again been denied for a man accused of sexually assaulting three teens and one young woman in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton in 1997.

Jason Davidson, 52, formerly of Chatham, was denied bail in Chatham court on Wednesday afternoon. The case returns to court on January 5, 2026.

The prosecution was seeking at least $100,000 from three family sureties to release Davidson on bail, previously telling the court that Davidson must be kept behind bars because of the serious nature of the allegations.

The prosecution said releasing Davidson would erode public confidence in the justice system.

Davidson is accused of sexually assaulting the four women between March and August of 1997.

Davidson was arrested in Campbell River, British Columbia on October 26 and faces 15 criminal charges, including kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault with a weapon, and theft.

The defence previously argued that detention was not necessary for Davidson, adding that he's presumed innocent and has a right to "reasonable" bail.

Three publication bans prevent further information from being made public, including evidence and the identity of the alleged victims.
